I see fall
orange begun of
and sometimes married to green
yellow also begun of green
and red of yellow or orange
in incredulous count
and measure
I hear fall
a few of the birds
I feed in winter come by
to say hello
and
we twitter
back and forth
about
nothing
at
all
as
my heart sings
and is
happy
I smell fall
I smell small endings
and the twist of time when
the cold breath
of the moon
descends
to
us
I feel fall
a gradual crispness
the leaves of all colors
letting go letting go
the tree before
and the tree
now
all
different
every day
the
softening
changes in
light
but
something
is different
I feel sadness
for brothers and sisters
and for everyone’s
children
all
my solace
to see and hear
smell and feel
the gently
turning
flicker
of
fall
