today

today I’m mourning
the disaster of my first marriage
the wasted years and my many failures
to know what I know now
mourning mostly for my daughter
her logical mind, her mind capable of learning
lost to prescriptions for chronic pain
dead before she was 40
heart stopped
after midnight
on a late January
Saturday
morning
