we come together to feed each other

in this America we are all separately together
we touch each other electronically and spiritually
and we plan to all meet in one place
for all of us to help all of us and each of us heal

in this America we come together to feed each other
to see and hear and feel each other’s grief
and to celebrate together our good luck
to know and to love one of us who is now all of us

in this America we come together to see each other
and seeing we look into each other’s eyes
and we hug each other tight

in this America we strive to be together
and the death of one of us
brings us together into one great room
a room older than all of us
and above a river that has run
and run and run
for longer than our kind has breathed

in this America our hearts are battered and sore
we come together to feed each other
to see each other
to hear each other
to touch each other
to share our grief
to weave our spirits together
and to heal

in this America we come together to feed each other
and outside this room we have all made warm
a wet icy storm rages
and after our grief has been spent
somehow that storm brings us each
and every one of us
we all hope
and some learn by messages
safely
home
