Out past Jupiter

out past Jupiter
you can look back and see
how brief
the span of your people’s history
was

how little time you actually
had

how magnificent the improbability
of all those memories love and sorrow
the blue skies

the thunderstorms rolling down
through valleys
sparking communicating with the ground
in flashes and sheets of water from above

the sparkling ocean you rode upon
the curling waves you caught lifting you

up and out

past Jupiter
