I have been doing a series of studies that start as lines, drawn on a Samsung tablet in ibisPaint with a stylus or, sometimes my fingers, beautifully imperfect and as free as I can make them (I do sometimes aim; and sometimes when I don’t like a line, I undo and draw another). I’m trying to feel each line; I love drawing simple lines with different widths, directions, colors and backgrounds. A small part of me takes flight each time I draw a line. And colors. I love the game of colors, combinations and blends, grateful for my digital art tools’s facility to easily change line sizes and colors, to undo and redo when my hand falters and fails to draw the line I imagine, to try and alter layers and transparencies, and to create portable result files with so many possibilities. The first challenge for each study is to draw lines that work with each other. For line drawings that tempt me, I add colors I like, find shapes to interweave, and then layer different transparencies to shift and play with shapes and my arrangement of colors. The two pieces above show some of the fun I’ve been having. Double-click to change images and see their shared and different elements.
